Direction, design, and implementation of a two-part programme along the Kaikōura coast bringing digital and physical interpretation together into one experience.
The concept for the Kaikōura Rebuild was to give local Kaikōura people ways to tell their story following the 2016 earthquake and to build those stories into the permanent landscape, enhanced by a sophisticated digital platform.
More than 10 hours of audio captured from Kaikōura locals was edited down to a 60-minute narrated journey along the rebuilt coast, triggered by GPS location and delivered to phones and tablets or through bluetooth car audio and supported by a realtime mapping system and custom CMS.
Physical locations were designed from the ground up to carry the narratives of Te Rūnanga o Kaikōura through text, furniture design, ecology, and the digital platform.
In 2018 the overall Kaikōura rebuild was awarded the Institution of Civil Engineers (ICE) 2018 People's Choice Award in London'
